Viktor Hovland captured the 2026 Travelers Championship in dramatic fashion, defeating World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in a sudden-death playoff to secure his eighth PGA TOUR title.
Hovland and Scheffler finished regulation tied at 21-under-par 259, forcing a Monday morning playoff after weather delays extended the tournament beyond Sunday. Returning to the par-4 18th hole, both players found the fairway before Hovland delivered a superb approach to inside eight feet. The Norwegian calmly converted the birdie opportunity, while Scheffler’s shorter birdie putt slid past the left edge, handing Hovland a memorable victory.

The triumph completed a resilient performance from Hovland, who entered the final round with a one-shot lead and closed with a one-under-par 69. Throughout a tense back nine and playoff, the 28-year-old showcased remarkable composure, responding to every challenge with clutch approach shots and confident putting.
“It’s been stressful, but it feels amazing,” Hovland told NBC after the victory. “Scottie brings out the best in me, and to come out on top in a playoff like this is huge.”
The victory earned Hovland US$3.6 million from the tournament’s US$20 million purse and is expected to lift him from 30th to around 12th in the Official World Golf Ranking. It also marked his 10th professional victory worldwide, reinforcing his return to winning form on the PGA TOUR.
Scheffler, who carded a two-under-par 68 in the final round, once again demonstrated why he remains the world’s top-ranked golfer. He produced several crucial par saves during regulation and forced the playoff with steady golf, but ultimately settled for his fourth runner-up finish of the season.
Collin Morikawa delivered the round of the day with a spectacular nine-under-par 61 to finish solo third at 20 under, narrowly missing the playoff. Matt Fitzpatrick claimed fourth place at 19 under, while Wyndham Clark and Akshay Bhatia shared fifth on 18 under.
