India’s leading golfers Shubhankar Sharma and Anirban Lahiri will spearhead the home challenge when the DP World India Championship returns for its second edition at Delhi Golf Club from 15–18 October, featuring one of the strongest international fields ever assembled in the country.
The US$4 million championship will see the Indian stars compete alongside defending champion Tommy Fleetwood, career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy, reigning Open Champion Ryan Fox, and several other leading names from the DP World Tour.
Sharma, a two-time DP World Tour winner, made history in 2017 by becoming the youngest Indian to claim a DP World Tour title after winning the Joburg Open at the age of 21. He secured a second victory at the 2018 Maybank Championship with a brilliant final-round 62 before earning the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award and topping the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
The 30-year-old has also won six Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) titles and represented India at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Reflecting on the tournament, Sharma said it was a special experience to compete in the inaugural edition last year and expressed his excitement about returning to Delhi Golf Club. He added that the world-class field highlights the continued growth of golf in India while providing an excellent platform for the country’s emerging talent.
Lahiri, one of India’s most accomplished golfers, boasts two DP World Tour victories among his 18 international titles. His most memorable triumph came at the 2015 Hero Indian Open, where he staged a remarkable comeback from seven shots behind to defeat S.S.P. Chawrasia in a playoff.
The two-time Olympian also made history as the first Indian golfer to represent the International Team at the Presidents Cup, competing in both the 2015 and 2017 editions.
The second edition of the DP World India Championship is expected to attract global attention as India continues to strengthen its position on the international golfing calendar, with thousands of fans anticipated to witness four days of elite competition at the historic Delhi Golf Club.
