Army Golf Club triumphs at 10th Federation Cup in Savar

Army Golf Club emerged victorious at the 10th Federation Cup Golf Championship 2026, delivering a commanding performance to claim the title ahead of runners-up Kurmitola Golf Club at Savar Golf Club on Saturday powered by Pubali Bank PLC and Hotel De Crystal Crown.

The two-day championship, held on October 23–24 under the auspices of the Bangladesh Golf Federation (BGF) and powered by Pubali Bank, the championship featured golfers from established clubs as well as emerging golfing centres across the country.

The competition followed a two-round stroke-play format, with gross and net scoring classifications. Participants were divided into four categories: Regular Men, Senior Men, Ladies and Juniors, providing competitive opportunities across different age groups and playing abilities.

The championship’s entry list offered a broader picture of the country’s golfing landscape. From Kurmitola and Savar to Bhatiary, Mainamati, Jolshiri and several other clubs, the tournament brought together experienced amateur golfers, senior players, women and promising juniors.

For Bangladesh golf, the significance of the Federation Cup extends beyond the final standings. It is one of the competitions that brings players from different clubs into a common competitive environment, allowing them to measure their progress against golfers they might not regularly encounter.

The official BGF registration list recorded 176 entries, with representation from 19 club abbreviations. The field included players from Kurmitola Golf Club, Army Golf Club, Savar Golf Club, Bhatiary Golf and Country Club, Mainamati Golf and Country Club, Jolshiri Golf Club and Arunima Resort Golf Club, among others.

The presence of golfers from different regions was particularly encouraging. While Dhaka remains a major centre of golf in Bangladesh, the participation of players from clubs outside the capital demonstrated the importance of maintaining a nationwide competition structure.

The Federation Cup provides an opportunity for these golfers to compete beyond their home courses, encounter different playing conditions and develop the discipline required in tournament golf.

Unlike recreational rounds, stroke-play competition places a premium on consistency. Every shot contributes to the final total, making course management, recovery play and mental composure essential over successive rounds.

The two-round format also gives players an opportunity to respond to their opening-round performance, whether by protecting an early advantage or attempting to recover lost ground.

One of the more significant aspects of the championship was the inclusion of junior and women golfers alongside regular and senior competitors.

Among the registered juniors were Syed Mahdi Mahbeer, Md Irfan Hasan and Md Arfan Hasan from Kurmitola Golf Club, along with Sheikh Mohammad Sameer Hossain of Bhatiary Golf and Country Club and Ehan Yousuf of Army Golf Club.

The entry list also included women golfers such as Sherin Sultana of Rangpur Golf and Country Club, Easmin Akter of Mainamati Golf and Country Club and Zaima Binte Hossain of Kurmitola Golf Club.

Their presence underlined the need for continued investment in junior development and women’s golf, two areas that will be important to the sport’s long-term progress.

For younger players, competitions such as the Federation Cup offer valuable exposure to tournament conditions. Playing alongside experienced competitors can help them develop confidence, improve decision-making and understand the demands of competitive golf.

Savar Golf Club, situated within Savar Cantonment, served as the host venue for the championship. Its established golfing facilities have made it an important part of the country’s tournament infrastructure.

Hosting national competitions outside the capital’s principal golfing venues also helps distribute tournament opportunities and strengthen the role of affiliated clubs in developing the sport.

The Federation Cup’s gross and net classifications allowed the competition to recognise different measures of performance. Gross scoring rewards the lowest actual stroke totals, while net scoring accounts for players’ handicaps, making competition more accessible across varying skill levels.

As the sport seeks to attract more participants and develop future competitors, consistent sponsorship can contribute to better tournament organisation, wider participation and a stronger competitive calendar.

The Bangladesh Golf Federation, headed by President General Waker-Uz-Zaman, has a central role in maintaining that structure and supporting affiliated clubs across the country.

The 10th Federation Cup provided another opportunity to bring together golfers of different generations and backgrounds. Its registered field of 176 players reflected the breadth of the country’s golfing community.

As Bangladesh looks to strengthen its amateur golf structure, regular national competitions will remain essential for identifying talent, encouraging participation and building a more competitive environment.

For the players who gathered at Savar, the tournament represented more than two rounds of golf. It was an opportunity to compete, gain experience and contribute to the continued development of the game.
