Ryder Cup 2025: USA Team to Donate All Winnings to Charity

In a remarkable gesture of generosity, Xander Schauffele and his fellow American teammates have committed to donating their entire earnings from the 2025 Ryder Cup to various charities. The PGA of America announced that each of the 12 U.S. golfers participating at Bethpage Black, as well as their captain Keegan Bradley, will receive $500,000, with $300,000 earmarked for charitable donations. The players will also have a $200,000 “stipend” at their disposal, which they are free to use as they wish. However, Schauffele, currently ranked second in the world and both the PGA and Open champion, declared that none of the American players intend to keep the stipend for themselves.

This decision to support charitable causes underscores the team’s commitment to giving back to the community, with potential beneficiaries including the Fire Department and NYPD, among others. This collective act of philanthropy follows previous Ryder Cup controversies, including discussions around player compensation. At the last Ryder Cup in Italy, for instance, there was significant media buzz about Patrick Cantlay’s choice to play without a cap, reportedly due to compensation issues—a claim he refuted.

The move by the American team is seen as an opportunity to positively influence the community and demonstrate the spirit of giving that pervades the sport. Captain Bradley had previously confirmed his intention to donate his earnings, setting a precedent for his team. The gesture also comes in contrast to comments from European standout Rory McIlroy, who had expressed willingness to pay to participate, highlighting the differing perspectives on player compensation in this prestigious event.
