Jamal Hossain is one of Bangladesh’s leading professional golfers, known for his consistent performances in national and international tournaments. A regular competitor on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), he has proudly represented Bangladesh and remains an inspiration to the country’s next generation of golfers.

- Where did you spend your childhood?
I spent my childhood in the Kochukhet area of Dhaka Cantonment.
- How did you first become introduced to golf?
My first introduction to golf came through my uncle. He worked at Kurmitola Golf Club. One day, he took me to the club with him, and that was where I first discovered the game of golf.

- What was it like the first time you held a golf club?
After being introduced to golf, I dreamed of becoming a good golfer. Holding a golf club for the first time felt like taking my very first step toward achieving that dream.
- When did you realize that you wanted to pursue golf as your profession?
After learning more about golf, I realized that it could help me achieve something meaningful in life. I also understood that performing well in golf could bring honor to my country, and that inspired me to choose golf as my profession.
- What challenges or struggles did you face in the beginning?
Everyone faces struggles in life, and I was no exception. When I first started playing golf, buying golf clubs was financially difficult for both me and my family. It became very challenging to continue playing. At that difficult time, Runner Group came forward and sponsored me.

- What was the biggest turning point in your career?
The biggest turning point in my career was receiving sponsorship. When continuing in golf became very difficult, Runner Group sponsored me, which completely changed my life. At present, I am sponsored by Paragon Group. I would like to sincerely thank both Runner Group and Paragon Group for their support.
- What were your first national and international tournaments? How was the experience?
My first national tournament was the Amateur Golf Tournament in 2007, and my first international tournament was in Bhutan. Representing my country abroad for the first time was an incredible experience. It inspired me to work even harder and improve my game.
- Which international tournaments have you played in so far? Which achievement is the most memorable?
I have participated in numerous international tournaments in different countries. However, I always try to compete in the PGTI Tour events in India. My most memorable achievement was winning a tournament in Ahmedabad, India, in 2023. The final round took place on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. Winning a tournament abroad while being away from my family on Eid made it a truly unforgettable moment.
- Is there a match that still makes you emotional when you think about it?
Yes, definitely. In my first tournament, I reached the final hole with a one-shot lead. However, Siddikur Rahman chipped in from off the 18th green for a birdie, and the match was tied. Unfortunately, I eventually finished as the runner-up. Even today, thinking about that match makes me emotional.
- Who has had the greatest influence on your life?
The people who have influenced me the most are my family. They have always stood beside me, supported me through every stage of my life, and constantly encouraged me.
- What does your daily training, fitness, and diet routine look like as a professional golfer?
Success in any field requires patience and dedication. As a professional golfer, I train rigorously from morning until evening every day. Consistent hard work is the key to success.
- How do you handle the mental pressure before major tournaments?
Managing mental pressure is extremely important before any major tournament. Staying calm allows you to perform at your best. I believe that being satisfied with my performance in every round helps me manage that pressure effectively.
- What is the biggest lesson you have learned from competing alongside international golfers?
I have competed with many international golfers both at home and abroad. Playing alongside them has helped me improve my own game significantly. They are very friendly and always remain mentally strong in difficult situations. Their ability to stay composed under pressure is something I have learned from them.
- What was the most difficult period of your life, and how did you overcome it?
The most difficult time in my life was during the COVID-19 pandemic. When the entire world came to a standstill, I had to remain at home. During that time, I focused on maintaining my fitness. Even when golf clubs remained closed, I continued practicing by hitting shots within a 300-foot area so that I could return to competitive golf once conditions improved.
- Tell us about your personal life, family, and hobbies outside golf.
Outside golf, I am very happy with my family. Every member of my family has contributed to my success. My mother and my wife have always stood by me through every joy and hardship. Whenever I lost confidence, they encouraged me. My wife also takes care of our children’s education and many family responsibilities, allowing me to practice without worries. Overall, I feel truly blessed with my family.
- Is there any moment in your career that completely changed your life?
Yes. The moment I first qualified to represent the national team changed my life. From then on, I dreamed of becoming a better golfer. Representing the national team transformed both my career and my life.
- How do you evaluate the current state and future of golf in Bangladesh?
Golf in Bangladesh has improved significantly compared to the past. Previously, only two or three golfers competed internationally, but now around eight to ten golfers regularly represent the country abroad. I am optimistic that Bangladeshi golf will continue to grow and that our golfers will bring even greater recognition to the country.
- What is your most important advice for the younger generation who want to become golfers?
My advice is to stay mentally strong, practice consistently with dedication, and always strive to play your very best.
- What are your personal and professional goals over the next few years?
My goal is to qualify for the Asian Tour and achieve strong results there. After that, I hope to compete on the PGA Tour.
- If you had to describe your life story in one sentence, what would it be? How would you like people to remember you?
In one sentence, I would say that I am a happy and successful person. I would like people to remember me as someone who achieved something meaningful for Bangladesh through golf.
- Which is your favorite trophy in your career, and why?
My favorite trophy is the gold medal I won in the South Asian Games Amateur Golf Tournament. Winning a gold medal for Bangladesh against the best golfers from all South Asian countries is a matter of immense pride for me.
