Jamal Holds Firm to Share Early Lead at DP World Players Championship

India’s leading professional circuit witnessed a composed start from 41-year-old Bangladeshi golfer Jamal Hossain, who returned a flawless five-under 67 to secure a share of the one-shot lead after the opening round of the INR 1 crore DP World Players Championship at Classic Golf & Country Club in Nuh, Haryana.

A six-time winner on the tour, Jamal delivered a round defined by discipline and precision, carding five birdies without a single blemish. His early clubhouse lead was later matched by a teenage contender, setting up a competitive leaderboard heading into the subsequent rounds.

Jamal Hossain, who etched his name in history as the first amateur to win a DP World PGTI event in 2009, expressed satisfaction with his performance under demanding conditions.

“The wind made it challenging, especially on the back nine, but I felt I controlled my game well,” he said. “My driving and putting were solid, and I was able to take my chances when they came.”

Reflecting on his closing stretch, he added, “I made a few good mid-range birdies and a long one on the final hole, which was a nice way to finish. Overall, I’m pleased with how I handled the conditions.”

The championship carries added significance this season following the landmark multi-year partnership announced in January between DP World and the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). Under the agreement, DP World assumes the role of Title Partner and Official Umbrella Partner of the tour, reinforcing its commitment to the growth of professional golf in the region.

PGTI also acknowledged the continued support of its Tour Partners, including Axis Bank, Amul, Campa, Kalyani, Amrutanjan Enerlyte, Golf Plus Monthly, and Golf Design India, whose collective contribution remains instrumental in advancing the professional game across India.

With steady form and experience on his side, Hossain has positioned himself strongly as the tournament progresses into what promises to be a tightly contested week.
