Bangladesh Golf Society (BGS), a new community platform for golfers, began its journey with its first gathering at Army Golf Club in Dhaka on Wednesday, August 26, bringing together golfers interested in building a broader and more connected golfing community in the country.
The idea originated among a group of Bangladesh Golf Academy (BGA) alumni, who initially discussed forming an alumni association to maintain connections and strengthen fellowship among former academy participants.
As the discussions evolved, however, the group saw an opportunity to pursue a broader vision. Rather than limiting the initiative to BGA alumni, they decided to establish Bangladesh Golf Society, envisaging it as an inclusive platform for the wider golfing community in Bangladesh.
Dr Monirul Islam and Advocate Tipu Sultan organised the inaugural gathering, where interested golfers exchanged views on the vision, structure and future activities of the society.
Discussions focused on developing a community-driven platform that could bring together golfers from different clubs, professions and generations, while fostering friendship, fellowship, networking and the spirit of the game.
Simco Holdings Limited, Arunima Resort Golf Club and Chuti Resort supported the inaugural gathering as event partners.
The initiative comes at a time when golf in Bangladesh is gaining momentum, with growing participation in club, corporate, amateur and professional events. The expansion of golfing activities has also created greater scope for platforms that connect players and enthusiasts beyond individual clubs and tournaments.
Although BGS has its roots among BGA alumni, the organisers envision the society as a broader platform with a long-term interest in strengthening connections across Bangladesh’s golfing fraternity. Regular gatherings, networking opportunities and golf-related activities are expected to form part of its future initiatives.
The organisers hope BGS will work alongside the country’s existing golf clubs, associations and institutions, complementing their activities while contributing to a stronger, more engaged and inclusive golfing community in Bangladesh.
