Razu steals the show as Western Group Golf Open concludes

Professional golfer Md Razu emerged champion of the 4th Western Group Professional Golf Open 2026, which concluded at Army Golf Club in Dhaka on Thursday, bringing the curtain down on three days of competitive golf featuring some of Bangladesh’s leading professionals.

The tournament, held from October 27 to 29 under the Bangladesh Professional Golfers’ Association (BPGA), witnessed an engaging contest as established professionals and emerging talents competed for honours.

The closing and prize-giving ceremony brought together golfers, sporting officials and distinguished guests, including the High Commissioner of Brunei His Excellency Haji Haris bin Haji Othman to Bangladesh and BPGA President Mohammad Younus, who presented trophies to the winners.

Razu’s victory was particularly noteworthy considering the strong competition throughout the tournament. Akbar Hossain had made an impressive start, taking the opening-round lead with a six-under-par performance, one stroke ahead of Badal Hossain.

Jamal Hossain followed at three-under, while Razu, Siddikur Rahman and Sazib Ali were among the chasing group at two-under.

However, Razu ultimately emerged victorious, demonstrating the competitive depth of Bangladesh’s domestic professional golf circuit.

The tournament also featured Siddikur Rahman, Bangladesh’s most internationally accomplished professional golfer, whose presence added further significance to the competition.

Speaking to TheGolfHouse during the event, Siddikur discussed professional golf in Bangladesh and the importance of providing local players with opportunities to compete regularly.

The competition offered another opportunity for the country’s professional golfers to test themselves against experienced opponents and gain valuable tournament experience.

The presence of the Brunei High Commissioner at the prize-giving ceremony also added an international dimension to the occasion, reflecting the growing connections between Bangladesh’s golfing community and its diplomatic partners.

BPGA President Mohammad Younus attended the ceremony as the association continued its efforts to strengthen professional golf through regular tournaments and greater opportunities for players.

The BPGA has identified the development of a consistent domestic tournament calendar, improved training opportunities and increased international participation among its priorities.

Corporate backing remains an important part of those efforts. Western Group’s continued involvement in professional golf has helped provide a competitive platform for Bangladeshi players.

The fourth edition of the tournament also highlighted the importance of sustained private-sector support in developing the country’s professional golfing landscape.

For Razu, the title represents another significant achievement on the domestic circuit. For Bangladesh’s professional golfers, the tournament provided an opportunity to compete, build confidence and prepare for future challenges.

The event concluded with the presentation of trophies and recognition of the leading performers, bringing another edition of the Western Group Professional Golf Open to a close.
