State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting golf in Bangladesh, saying the sport can play a significant role in reducing children’s screen time and encouraging a healthier, more disciplined lifestyle.
The state minister made the remarks during a visit to the Bangladesh Golf Federation (BGF), Bangladesh Golf Academy, and Kurmitola Golf Club on Monday 3 August 2026.
Lt Gen Mohammad Shaheenul Haque, Senior Vice President of the Bangladesh Golf Federation, welcomed the state minister upon his arrival. Members of the Federation’s Executive Committee and senior officials were also present. During the visit, BGF officials presented an overview of the federation’s ongoing activities, future development plans, grassroots initiatives, junior golf programmes and Bangladesh’s participation in international competitions.
Addressing the gathering, Aminul Haque stressed the importance of encouraging children and young people to participate in sports.
“Golf, along with other sports, can significantly reduce children’s screen time. Sports help young people develop discipline, confidence and healthy habits while keeping them physically active,” he said.
The state minister assured the federation that the Ministry of Youth and Sports would extend its wholehearted support to the development of golf across the country.
Recognising the high cost of sporting equipment, he also said he would advocate for reducing or waiving taxes on golf and other sports-related equipment to make them more affordable and accessible for players, particularly the younger generation.
The minister later visited the Bangladesh Golf Academy, where he was received by Lt Gen Khan Firoz Ahmed, President of the Junior Division of the Bangladesh Golf Federation. He was briefed by Brig Gen Mohammad Khaled Kamal, Rector of the Bangladesh Golf Academy, on the academy’s training programmes, facilities and future development plans. During the visit, the state minister observed coaching sessions, inspected the academy’s training infrastructure and junior development programmes, and interacted with coaches and young golfers. He commended the academy’s efforts to nurture the next generation of golfers and expressed confidence that its initiatives would contribute significantly to the long-term growth of golf in Bangladesh.
Following the academy visit, the state minister proceeded to Kurmitola Golf Club, where he inspected the club’s facilities and was honoured with honorary membership of Kurmitola Golf Club. The honour recognised his commitment to the development of sports and his support for the growth of golf in Bangladesh.
BGF officials expressed optimism that the government’s continued support would help expand golf at the grassroots level, develop internationally competitive players and position Bangladesh more prominently in the global golfing community.
The visit was attended by members of the Bangladesh Golf Federation Executive Committee, senior federation officials, coaches and officials associated with the country’s golf development programmes.
