A new chapter in Bangladesh’s golfing history unfolded on 19 July 2026 with the grand inauguration of Patenga Golf & Country Club, a landmark development by the Bangladesh Navy in the scenic coastal city of Chattogram.Â
The prestigious inauguration ceremony was graced by Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Naval Staff, as the Chief Guest, alongside senior naval officials, distinguished guests, and members of the golfing community.
Spread across 35.68 acres, the 9-hole, 3,250-yard championship golf course has been designed to USGA standards, offering an international-standard golfing experience while showcasing cutting-edge engineering and sustainable course development.
Addressing the audience, Project Director Commander Habib described the project as a testament to vision, dedication, and teamwork. He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Bangladesh Navy, local and international experts, and the hundreds of workers who transformed the challenging coastal terrain into one of the country’s finest golfing destinations.
The course features several unique attractions, including Bangladesh’s largest PGA-standard island green on the ninth hole and the country’s first “Island of Sand” on Hole 6. With strategically designed bunkers, water hazards, and an advanced drainage system capable of withstanding extreme monsoon conditions, the facility sets a new benchmark for golf course development in Bangladesh.
The inauguration programme featured a ceremonial cake-cutting, a tree plantation initiative symbolising environmental sustainability, and an audiovisual presentation highlighting the remarkable journey of the project from concept to completion.
The ceremony also paid tribute to the engineers, consultants, and workers whose dedication made the project possible, including a heartfelt remembrance of Mr. Vola Mia, a worker who lost his life during the construction of the course.
More than just a golf course, Patenga Golf & Country Club reflects the Bangladesh Navy’s commitment to excellence in sports, recreation, and community development. As one of the country’s newest golfing destinations, it is expected to play a significant role in promoting golf and positioning Bangladesh on the international golfing map.
