Chief of Army Staff (CAS) Cup Professional Golf Tournament 2026, A New Era for Bangladesh Professional Golf

The inaugural Chief of Army Staff (CAS) Cup Professional Golf Tournament 2026 signalled the beginning of an exciting new chapter for professional golf in Bangladesh. More than simply introducing another championship to the national calendar, the tournament showcased the country’s growing golfing standards while presenting a bold vision for the future of the sport.

“We will develop Jolshiri Golf Club into a full 18-hole championship course and a venue capable of hosting international-standard golf tournaments.”
— General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff

Held over three days at Jolshiri Golf Club in Rupganj and organised by the Bangladesh Professional Golfers’ Association (BPGA), the 54-hole championship featured a prize fund of Tk 30 lakh and brought together Bangladesh’s leading professional golfers. From the opening round to the final putt, the event delivered high-quality competition, highlighting the remarkable progress of the professional game.

Leading the way was Jamal Hossain, who produced a commanding performance to capture the inaugural title. Rounds of 67, 66 and a superb tournament-best final-round 65 saw him finish at an outstanding 18-under-par 198, securing victory by eight strokes. Badal Hossain claimed runner-up honours on 10-under-par 206 after rounds of 66, 70 and 70, while the strong overall standard of play reflected the increasing depth of talent within Bangladesh’s professional ranks.

“Jamal became champion at eighteen under par, and I am delighted looking at everyone’s scores this time. Our golf is moving in the right direction.”
— Major General Mashud Razzaq (Retd.), President, BPGA

The championship concluded with an impressive Prize Giving Ceremony attended by General Waker-Uz-Zaman, SBP, OSP, SGP, psc, Chief of Army Staff, Bangladesh Army, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. His presence underscored the Bangladesh Army’s continuing commitment to the growth and development of golf across the country.

The most significant announcement of the evening, however, looked firmly towards the future. The Army Chief revealed plans to establish four new golf academies in Savar, Bogura, Jashore and Rangpur, creating greater opportunities for aspiring golfers at the grassroots level. He also confirmed that tournaments of similar stature would be held four times annually, strengthening the domestic professional circuit and providing players with more opportunities to compete at a high level.

The inaugural CAS Cup ultimately achieved far more than crowning its first champion. It successfully combined elite competition with a long-term development strategy, reinforcing Bangladesh’s ambition to build a stronger professional golf ecosystem. With expanded playing opportunities, new training facilities and continued institutional support, the CAS Cup has laid the foundation for a brighter and more competitive future for golf in Bangladesh.
