Marcel Schneider Leads into Final Round at Austrian Alpine Open

Marcel Schneider will chase his first DP World Tour title as he heads into the final round of the Austrian Alpine Open with a one-shot lead. The German golfer delivered another impressive performance at Golf Club Gut Altentann, firing a second consecutive 4-under-par 66 to reach a 15-under-par total.

After a steady start, parring his first eight holes, the 35-year-old found momentum around the turn, making four birdies in five holes from the ninth. He closed out with five straight pars to secure his spot at the top of the leaderboard. This marks the first time Schneider has led after every round of a DP World Tour event — a milestone in his pursuit of a breakthrough win.

Hot on his heels is fellow German Nicolai von Dellingshausen, who also seeks his maiden DP World Tour victory. Von Dellingshausen posted a 5-under-par 65 in his third round, highlighted by a dramatic eagle on the 18th to move to 14 under par.

Denmark’s Jeff Winther surged into contention with the round of the day — a flawless 8-under-par 62 — placing him solo third at 13 under. Just one shot back is England’s Callum Tarren, who recorded a third-round 66 to sit at 12 under par.

Tied for fifth place are South Africa’s Jayden Schaper, who shot a 3-under 67, and Sweden’s Sebastian Söderberg, who matched Winther with an impressive 62.

As the final round approaches, all eyes will be on Marcel Schneider as he aims to convert his consistent play into a long-awaited DP World Tour victory.

Player Quotes

Marcel Schneider: “Once again today I felt like I had a bit of a slow start. I had one chance on hole number three but I didn’t take that. I managed it around the greens and didn’t drop a shot, that was important early on. I stayed patient, waiting for the first birdie to drop on number nine, then after that everything went in my direction. I was hitting good irons, holed the putts. Overall, I’m happy. On the last I would have liked to two-putt and take the birdie, but it is what it is.

“I’m looking forward to tomorrow. I’ve got the opportunity to stay there on Sunday as a winner, but once again it’s a long journey. We play 18 holes and anything can happen. I’ve been in the game long enough, let’s see.”

Nicolai von Dellingshausen:  “It was really solid golf, I’d say cruise control the first ten and a half holes. I had an energy dip, the focus wasn’t there 11, 12 and 13. I had to battle through a little more. But I got back nicely from 14-15 onwards and it was nice to finish with an eagle.

“It’s what we practice for. I’m looking forward to it. We practiced it today already, I’m looking forward to playing with him again. It’s nice for the Germans out there watching. But I’m happy to play with him again. We had a lot of fun out there and we were hyping each other up when things were going well. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Jeff Winther: “A lot better than expected, I’ll tell you that. It was lovely. I haven’t played very well for a long time. Last two days, something came together and I’ve hit a lot of fairways, which is crucial on this course. I found an old putter and it’s sort of just working, so I’m very pleased.

“I cannot tell you because I have no clue. I have no idea. It might be having zero expectations of my own game. I was glad I took last week off because I couldn’t see myself playing anywhere near good golf. This week is a surprise and hopefully I can feed off it tomorrow or the week after. It doesn’t really matter, as long as I find something that works. Clubs, the woods, they are beginning to work. I’m hoping there can be some good months to come.”
