DP World Donates Container of Golf Equipment to Boost Junior Golf in Kenya

DP World has strengthened its partnership with the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) in Kenya by donating a 20-foot shipping container filled with golf equipment during the Magical Kenya Open presented by absa. The unveiling took place at Muthaiga Golf Club, where the container was showcased in the tournament village before being relocated to the JGF headquarters in Nairobi.

The container includes golf balls, clubs, apparel, swing nets, and other training materials, reinforcing DP World’s ongoing Second Life Container initiative. This global program repurposes used golf balls collected throughout the season, redirecting them to grassroots golf communities. Over the past two years, the initiative has collected 280,000 golf balls, with more than 20,000 already delivered to Kenya.

These donations have supported 30 golf clubs across the country, enhancing junior training programs for children as young as five. The JGF network now consists of over 100 coaches, playing a pivotal role in developing Kenya’s emerging golfing talent.

Regina Gachora, President of the Junior Golf Foundation, expressed deep appreciation for the support, noting the tangible impact on accessibility and player development. “The golf balls we have received so far are having a real impact in supporting young talent across Kenya. We are confident that the equipment will have the same influence. We can’t thank DP World enough for all they’ve done for our organization and golf in our country.”

Daniel van Otterdijk, Group Chief Communications Officer at DP World, highlighted the company’s commitment to nurturing the sport. “We are delighted to continue our support of the Junior Golf Foundation, helping to grow the game from grassroots to professional level. The Magical Kenya Open is a key event for us, and it’s inspiring to mark the occasion with this meaningful donation.”

Mohammed Akoojee, CEO & MD of DP World for sub-Saharan Africa, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the company’s broader commitment to community upliftment. “Our donation drives positive impact in Kenyan sport, nurturing talent with the potential to shape the future of the DP World Tour. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with the Junior Golf Foundation as we continue enabling the free flow of trade and opportunity in the region.”

The initiative stands as a powerful example of corporate partnership driving growth, access, and inspiration within junior golf in Kenya.
