Young takes control on home soil in Scotland

Daniel Young delivered a stunning performance on moving day at the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by The R&A, carding a seven-under-par 64 to take a commanding four-stroke lead heading into the final round at SCHLOSS Roxburghe.

The 33-year-old Scot lit up the course with nine birdies and two bogeys, moving to 18-under-par for the week. He sits four shots clear of France’s Julien Quesne, who also posted a 64 to reach 14 under.

Young made a blistering start with four birdies in his opening five holes before dropping shots on the sixth and eighth. Regaining momentum around the turn, he added birdies at 11 and 12 and finished strongly with two more on the closing stretch.

“It’s been a good day,” Young said. “The putter was really hot and that was the key to making so many birdies. Another nine birdies tomorrow would be nice!”

Fresh from competing at The 153rd Open, Young has been in fine form on the HotelPlanner Tour, highlighted by a third-place finish at the BlotPlay9 and a runner-up spot at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge.

Despite his strong position, Young remains cautious heading into the final day. “I’ll just keep my head down and try to do what I’ve been doing the past three days. There’s still a lot of golf to be played, and scores can go low out here. I’ll stay aggressive and see where I stand tomorrow evening.”

Cheered on by home fans, Young admitted the support played a key role in his charge. “Having family and friends out here is amazing. You feed off the applause, and playing in a good group makes it even better,” he added.

Belgium’s James Meyer de Beco, Germany’s Marc Hammer, Scots David Law and Euan Walker, and Denmark’s Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen are five shots adrift on 13 under, with Italy’s Filippo Celli a further stroke back in eighth.

The final round tees off at 7:15 a.m., with Young, Quesne, and Meyer de Beco set to head out in the final group at 11:40 a.m.
