Vidal holds two-shot lead in Scotland

Spain’s Quim Vidal will take a two-shot advantage into the weekend at the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by The R&A after carding a superb six-under-par 65 in the second round at SCHLOSS Roxburghe.

Starting the day at seven under, the 25-year-old produced five birdies, an eagle, and just one bogey to move to 13 under par for the tournament, two clear of Scottish pair Euan Walker and Daniel Young.

Vidal made a steady start with four opening pars before back-to-back birdies at the fifth and sixth. A dropped shot on the seventh was quickly offset by a brilliant eagle on the par-five 11th, where he struck a three-iron from 210 meters to within two feet. Three further birdies on the back nine completed a strong round.

“I was playing great today,” Vidal said. “I wasn’t holing many putts early on, but I hit it closer on the back nine, which made it easier to roll them in. The eagle on 11 gave me a real boost.”

Already a winner on the HotelPlanner Tour this season at the Delhi Challenge, Vidal sits 12th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings. A win this week would put him on the brink of securing promotion to the DP World Tour.

After missing the cut at the German Challenge and finishing 69th at the D+D REAL Czech Challenge, Vidal remains cautious about expectations: “I haven’t been playing that well recently, so I’m just trying to stay focused and not think too far ahead. The course suits me – it’s firm, so I’m hitting short irons into the greens, and the putting surfaces are rolling nicely.”

Denmark’s Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen is alone in fourth at 10 under, one ahead of David Law, Marc Warren, Marc Hammer, and Aron Zemmer. Road to Mallorca leader Joshua Berry sits three shots further back in a tie for ninth with Tom Lewis and Will Porter at eight under.

The third round begins at 8:24 a.m. on Saturday, with Vidal teeing off in the final group at 12:59 p.m. alongside Walker and Young.
