The Open Championship returns to Royal Portrush where legacy lives on

The 2025 Open Championship is set to take place from Thursday, 17 July to Sunday, 20 July at the iconic Royal Portrush Golf Club in Portrush, Northern Ireland.

This historic venue once again welcomes the world’s finest golfers for four days of championship drama. Defending champion Xander Schauffele of the United States, who famously captured the title in 2024 and previously won Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020, returns with high expectations. He will be challenged by a stellar field, including current Olympic champion Scottie Scheffler, who arrives at Portrush in sensational form, having won three of his last six starts. Local favorite Rory McIlroy, the 2014 Open winner, will look to ignite home crowd support in his bid to reclaim the Claret Jug, while two-time major champions Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau round out a field packed with firepower.

Official practice days were held from Sunday, 13 July through Wednesday, 16 July, preparing the stage for what promises to be a fiercely contested tournament. Round one and two will tee off from 06:35 to 20:30 on Thursday and Friday, followed by round three and the final round from 08:00 to 19:00 on Saturday and Sunday respectively, all times local (BST).

Fans across the globe can catch the action live, with coverage available in over 200 countries. In the United States, NBC platforms including USA Network, Golf Channel, NBC, and Peacock will provide extensive broadcast and streaming coverage across all four days. In the United Kingdom, Sky Sports Golf will be the exclusive broadcaster. In total, more than 30 official broadcast partners will air the championship in 199 countries and territories, reaffirming The Open’s status as one of golf’s most-watched and revered tournaments.
