Schauffele Targets Comeback at Star-Studded Scottish Open

World Number Three Xander Schauffele has declared himself in “full chase mode” as he targets a return to top form at this week’s Genesis Scottish Open, hosted once again at the Renaissance Club.

The American star, who made history by winning the first co-sanctioned edition of the tournament by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR in 2022, is still working his way back from an injury-hit start to 2025. Schauffele sustained an intercostal strain and cartilage tear in January, sidelining him for eight weeks. Since returning, he’s managed just one top-10 finish this season.

Despite the slow start, Schauffele showed promising signs with a top-10 finish at the Masters and a tie for 12th at the U.S. Open, proving he remains a force on golf’s biggest stages. The Genesis Scottish Open marks a crucial stop on his journey to regain momentum ahead of defending his Open Championship title at Royal Portrush next week.

Meanwhile, Scottish rising star Connor Syme enters his home open full of confidence after clinching his first DP World Tour title at the KLM Open last month. The 29-year-old Kirkcaldy native credited Scottish Golf’s “invaluable” role in his development as he prepares to tee it up alongside Ryder Cup hero Tommy Fleetwood and U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun for the opening two rounds.

Syme has a strong track record at the Scottish Open, having never missed the cut in six appearances. His best result came last year with a tie for 15th.

This year’s event features one of the strongest fields in tournament history. All three current Major champions – World Number One and US PGA Champion Scottie Scheffler, Masters winner Rory McIlroy, and reigning Open Champion Schauffele – are confirmed in the lineup, alongside newly crowned U.S. Open Champion Spaun.

Major winners Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa also headline a field that includes Ryder Cup stars Sepp Straka, Ludvig Åberg, Viktor Hovland, and Tommy Fleetwood. Defending champion and local favourite Robert MacIntyre returns aiming to thrill the home crowd once again.

In total, 13 of the world’s top 20 players will compete for the prestigious title in the second Rolex Series event of the season, setting the stage for a thrilling week on Scotland’s Golf Coast.
