Leading with Focus A Golfing Journey at Green Delta

What started as casual curiosity has now become a weekend ritual—golf has woven itself into the very fabric of his life. If he’s not on the course, he’s likely immersed in other important work, but the game is never far from mind. It has shaped how he thinks, behaves, and leads. Golf hasn’t just changed his weekends; it has redefined his focus, refined his patience, and mirrored the very discipline and strategy that have driven his professional journey in banking and insurance. A blessing in disguise, the game brought with it clarity, purpose, and a new way of seeing the world.

“What started as casual curiosity has now become a weekend ritual—golf is now part and parcel of my life.”

How did golf become such an integral part of your lifestyle?
What started as casual curiosity has now become a weekend ritual. I rarely miss a trip to the range or the green. In fact, it’s safe to say that golf has become part and parcel of my life. If I’m not on the course, I’m probably busy with other important work. It has influenced not only how I spend my time, but how I think, behave, and lead.

What personal growth have you noticed since picking up the game?
The biggest change is my focus. Golf teaches you to keep your eyes on the ball. I’ve applied that principle in every sphere of my life, at work, with my family, and with friends. My attention to detail has improved. I used to pride myself on multitasking, but I’ve learned that multitasking often dilutes quality. Now, I try to give undivided attention to whatever I do. Even if I only spend two minutes on a task, I make sure I’m fully present.

How do you compare golf with your professional career in banking and insurance?
There are fascinating parallels. Golf and banking both demand discipline, patience, and strategic thinking. I started my career as a management trainee at a reputed bank. I worked in multiple segments—from branch operations to credit structuring and corporate banking. Later, I transitioned to the insurance sector and joined Green Delta Insurance PLC. It’s a company with a remarkable legacy and many ‘firsts’ in Bangladesh and South Asia.

What sets Green Delta apart from other financial institutions?
Green Delta is a trailblazer in the insurance industry of Bangladesh. As the first publicly listed insurance company in the country, we have consistently led with innovation—pioneering a diversified product portfolio and launching the nation’s first digital insurance platform. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our AAA credit rating, earned for 12 consecutive years, underscoring our financial strength and stability. Blending the professionalism of a multinational organization with a deep-rooted local legacy, Green Delta continues to set benchmarks in the industry. I’ve been privileged to be part of this transformative journey, playing a key role in driving our digital innovation efforts since 2018.

What are your thoughts on the role of insurance in today’s economic landscape?
Insurance, much like banking, is a cornerstone of economic development. Yet in many markets—including ours—it remains underappreciated and underutilized. At Green Delta, we are committed to changing that narrative. Our current focus is on microinsurance and climate risk coverage, aimed at protecting vulnerable communities who are often excluded from traditional financial safety nets. We believe that innovation and technology are essential to expanding access and enhancing the impact of insurance across all segments of society. By bridging the protection gap, we’re not just growing our business—we’re contributing to a more inclusive and resilient economy.

You mentioned golf has changed your personality. In what ways?
Golf has taught me humility and patience. Every shot is different. Just like in life, you never know what’s coming next. You learn to adapt, accept new challenges, and move forward. Earlier, my patience level was quite low. Golf has helped me build that muscle. It’s also made me a more thoughtful leader and more balanced individual.

What advice would you give to others who are hesitant about picking up golf?
Don’t hesitate. Golf isn’t just a sport—it’s a lifestyle. It teaches discipline, sharpens focus, improves networking, and builds character. Whether you’re a student, a professional, or a retiree, golf offers something unique. In Bangladesh, golf is becoming increasingly accessible. I strongly encourage my peers and even my family to explore the game. It could truly transform your life.

How do you see the future of golf in Bangladesh?
Bright—if we promote it well. Golf can be a powerful tool for youth development. It enhances physical health, mental resilience, and focus. We must introduce the game to younger generations and involve families. The golf fraternity is growing, and with continued encouragement, Bangladesh can build a proud legacy in the sport—one that contributes not just in tournaments, but also through global recognition and cultural exchange.

A final thought?
Golf has been a blessing in disguise. It showed up in my life unexpectedly but brought clarity, purpose, and joy. Whether it’s in leadership, work, or life, I now believe in one simple mantra: Keep your eyes on the ball.
