Fitzpatrick Storms to Maiden Title at Hero Indian Open

Alex Fitzpatrick delivered a composed and decisive finish to claim his first DP World Tour title, overturning a four-shot deficit to defeat defending champion Eugenio Chacarra at the 2026 Hero Indian Open.

The 27-year-old Englishman carded a three-under-par 69 in the final round at DLF Golf & Country Club to secure a two-shot victory. Entering the day four strokes behind, Fitzpatrick produced a clinical back-nine performance to seize control of the tournament.

Chacarra, who held a commanding overnight lead, showed early resilience with a birdie at the fifth despite an opening bogey. However, momentum shifted at the eighth when his tee shot found water, leading to a costly bogey. Fitzpatrick capitalised with a birdie, reducing the deficit and setting up a tightly contested turn.

The Englishman briefly stumbled with a bogey at the tenth but responded with three consecutive birdies from the 11th to the 13th, applying sustained pressure. The decisive moment came across the 15th and 16th holes, where Fitzpatrick surged ahead as Chacarra faltered with back-to-back bogeys.

Displaying composure under pressure, Fitzpatrick added another birdie at the 17th to extend his lead before safely navigating the final hole, where a closing double bogey still proved sufficient for victory.

The win marks a significant milestone as Alex joins his elder brother, Matt Fitzpatrick, as a DP World Tour champion. The brothers also enter the record books as the first siblings to win in successive weeks across the DP World Tour and the PGA TOUR.

Behind them, MJ Daffue finished tied for third alongside Ugo Coussaud and Andy Sullivan. Italy’s Francesco Molinari ended the week at three under, while Matteo Manassero recorded the lowest round of the day with a 68.

Reflecting on his breakthrough, Fitzpatrick acknowledged the journey behind the win, noting the persistence required to overcome doubt and the importance of his support team. He also expressed pride in joining his brother among Tour winners, highlighting both inspiration and motivation drawn from that family benchmark.

The victory positions Fitzpatrick as a rising force on the European circuit, with momentum firmly on his side heading into the remainder of the season.
