Anders Emil Ejlersen produced an eagle-eagle-birdie finish to take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Dormy Open.
The Dane fired a seven under par 64 on moving day at Upsala GolfKlubb to climb the leaderboard to 18 under, one shot clear of his countryman Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen and Englishman Jamie Rutherford.
Having played the front nine in one under, Ejlersen stood on the 16th tee among a cluster of players two shots back of the lead.
However, after finding the par five in two and rolling home the putt, the Dane would then hole out on the par four 17th for a consecutive eagle. The 26-year-old then closed out his round with a birdie on the last to move clear at the top.
“I played well but didn’t make a lot of putts,” he said. “Then all a sudden I’m on 16, make an eagle, then holed a bunker shot on 17 for another eagle then finish with a birdie on 18 and here I am leading this tournament.
“I knew I was two shots behind, but anything can happen on the last three holes, especially on this course and I took advantage.”
Ejlersen has been competing on the Nordic Golf League this year and has made just three HotelPlanner Tour starts in 2025. The 26-year-old, who only found out he was playing on Sunday prior to the event, felt he managed his nerves well during the third round in Uppsala.
“I was a little bit nervous with this being a new experience for me, but I thought I’d just take it as another day on the golf course,” he added.
“I teed off a little bit shaky but after three holes I settled down and realized this is just another round and played pretty well from there.”
Ejlersen will tee it up in Sunday’s final grouping for the first time and is looking to remain calm as he eyes a maiden victory.
“I am going to try and replicate today. I am playing with Jonathan who is a very good friend of mine, so I’ll just treat it as any other round. I’ve played with him so many times so that will ease my nerves slightly.
“I will just try to hit some good golf shots, makes some putts and see where that gets me.”
Dutchman Vince van Veen, New Zealander Sam Jones, Englishman John Gough and Frenchman Felix Mory share fourth place on 15 under par, one shot ahead of Spaniard Rocco Repetto Taylor, England’s Alfie Plant and Australian Hayden Hopewell.
