Daniel Young Clinches First HotelPlanner Tour

Daniel Young captured his maiden HotelPlanner Tour victory at the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by The R&A, delighting home fans with a composed performance at SCHLOSS Roxburghe.

The 33-year-old Scotsman carded a final-round 70 to finish 19 under par for the tournament, edging out France’s Julien Quesne by a single stroke. Despite a double bogey at the opening hole, Young displayed grit and resilience, steadying his game with a par save at the second and a birdie at the fifth. He maintained a narrow lead throughout the back nine as pressure mounted.

Quesne, playing aggressively, narrowed the gap with birdies on the 15th and 16th, cutting Young’s lead to just one. Both players parred the 17th, and after Quesne missed a birdie opportunity on the 72nd hole, Young calmly holed a three-foot par putt to secure a memorable victory on home soil.

“I am lost for words,” said an emotional Young. “Winning here, in front of a home crowd, is incredibly special. I’ve been playing solid golf recently and really liked the setup at Roxburghe. I’m proud of how I handled the final round, especially when things got tough.”

Cheered on by a strong Scottish crowd, Young acknowledged the challenge of maintaining his lead. “You don’t get to choose where you win, but winning in Scotland feels extra special. It was tough out there—James came at me early; Julien came late—but I held on.”

Reflecting on his round, Young noted, “I knew if I steadied the ship and played smart, I’d have a chance. I hit a lot of greens and kept things simple. Today wasn’t my best putting day, but I had done enough earlier in the week.”

Euan Walker of Scotland claimed third place at 16 under, followed by England’s John Gough in fourth at 15 under.

With this win, Young climbs to sixth on the Road to Mallorca Rankings. England’s Joshua Berry maintains the top spot, ahead of South Africa’s JC Ritchie and Austria’s Maximilian Steinlechner.

The Road to Mallorca continues with the Irish Challenge at Killeen Castle from August 7–10, where Young will aim to build on this breakthrough triumph.
