Daniel Slabbert wins first G4D Tour

Daniel Slabbert made a dream debut on the G4D Tour as he captured his first title at the Betfred British Masters in stunning fashion, defeating Argentina’s Joshua Exequiel Riccardo in a tense play-off at The Belfry Hotel & Resort.

The South African, who is a left leg amputee, held his nerve on the second extra hole with a steady par, while Riccardo, who was born with cerebral palsy, faltered with a bogey. The result sealed an emotional triumph for Slabbert and marked a dramatic conclusion to the first Net-only event of the G4D season.

Trailing by two shots with two holes to play in regulation, Slabbert showed immense composure by delivering back-to-back birdies. Riccardo responded with a birdie at 17, but a closing bogey on 18 left both players tied, forcing the play-off.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” Slabbert said after his breakthrough win. “The play-off holes were nerve-wracking, especially with tight tee shots and difficult approaches. It’s an incredible feeling to get it done.”

With this victory, Slabbert not only celebrates his first G4D Tour success but also secures his place in the G4D Tour Series Finale, to be played in conjunction with the prestigious Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A.

The tournament showcased inspiring performances across the field. Slovenia’s Marjan Gavez, the top-ranked player in the Net standings, impressed on his debut with a tie for third alongside England’s Bradley Smith. Both players, who are above-the-knee amputees, finished strongly, while Mark Clougherty, a former Army veteran and Invictus Games competitor, rounded out the top ten.

The G4D Tour, launched in 2022 as a joint initiative between the DP World Tour and EDGA (European Disabled Golf Association), continues to grow as the pinnacle of competitive golf for players with disabilities. Its player pathway provides opportunities for individuals worldwide to access the game, develop their skills, and compete at the highest level, often alongside leading professionals on the DP World Tour.

Through sustained financial and structural support from the European Tour Group, EDGA has been able to expand eligibility, organize international tournaments, and deliver golf development and coach education globally.

Slabbert’s victory is another shining example of how the G4D Tour embodies resilience, inclusion, and the unifying spirit of golf.
