GREEN TO LEAD ASIAN CHARGE AT WGC-HSBC CHAMPIONS

Shanghai, October 16: Malaysia’s Gavin Green will spearhead the Asian Tour charge as the leading four players from the Asian Tour Order of Merit head to Shanghai for the WGC-HSBC Champions next week.

Green together with David Lipsky of the United States, Australia’s Scott Hend and India’s S.S.P. Chawrasia will ensure a strong Asian Tour presence as they add to the strength of the field at the lucrative US$9.5 million event which will take place at the Sheshan International Golf Club from October 26-29.

The quartet will be part of the star-studded field that features world number one Dustin Johnson of the United States, world number three Hideki Matsuyama of Japan and world number seven Jason Day of the Australia at the year’s final world golf championship.

Green will be making his debut at the WGC-HSBC Champions and is going to put in extra practice hours to ensure he is up against the stiff challenge that awaits in Shanghai.

“I’ll work a little bit more on my short game.  I struggled with it in Malaysia this week. But other than that, I think other aspects of my game are fine.  There are a lot of positives obviously, but there’s a lot of things I can improve on,” said Green.

Lipsky will be making his third appearance at the WGC-HSBC Champions having played in the 2012 and 2014 editions.

The Korean-American enjoyed a runner-up finish in Malaysia at the start of the year and is currently in second place on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.

“I always look forward to playing with the best players in the world so it means a lot to me to be able to tee up at the WGC-HSBC Champions,” said Lipsky.
